Lovelorn is an experimental typeface developed through

explorations of the topic of documented history and

undocumented voices within archives.

Starting as a research project, the uncanny shapes
and swirls of the letterforms are loosely drawn from
the handwriting in the many love letters found at the
British Library and the Wellcome Collection.

The resulting typeface was used to set the text of an

incognito queer love letter found at the National Archive

– originally typewritten, as Section 28 was still in force at

the time of its creation – therefore prompting an emotional

response to the otherwise mechanically written love letter.
